Pack Gallery Studio News August 2025 ◉
A Note from Paula Bannan - Gallery Curator
Hey Packsters! I’m excited to bring you the very first edition of our monthly newsletter, a little behind-the-scenes peek into what’s been happening at Pack Gallery, what’s coming up, and all the creativity in between.
Each month, I’ll be sharing:
o New artists and available works to explore
o A spotlight on an Artist in Focus
o Upcoming exhibitions and events (and some snaps from ones you may have missed)
o And a dose of what’s been happening in and around the gallery
Whether you’re a collector, a curious art lover, or part of our incredible creative community, this space is for you!
I’d love to hear from you too. Is there something you’d like to see in future editions? A feature, an interview, a studio tour? Reach out and let me know.
Thanks for being here for Volume 1, we hope it’s the first of many you’ll look forward to opening.

Artist In FOCUS
● KATIE PINK ●
Katie Pink is an emerging artist born in 1979 in Aotearoa, New Zealand, moved to Australia in 2005, and now lives on Bundjalung Country, Northern New South Wales.
She completed the three-year course at Byron School of Art in 2024 and is currently engaged in their alumni program.
Winner of Northern Rivers Community Gallery Graduation Prize. Her solo exhibition will be held there in October 2025.
In this series of works, Katie constructs her paintings on board using polyurethane, adding acrylic paint and pigment, blending them like a tasty cake icing. She lets layers appear and blend into a single form. Katie's paintings examine the tension between softness and hardness, showcasing pink tones alongside blacks and the warmth of golds.

Pack Gallery is pleased to announce that M.E. Baird will be repeating his first and most popular lecture, ‘Feasting On The Substance of A Good Idea’. However, this time around, M.E. Baird will be following up his lecture with an interactive workshop, 'The Art of Listening’. The workshop is closely related to the talk and provides a valuable practical experience following the lecture. But it's not essential to attend the lecture first.
LECTURE: “Feasting on the Substance of a Good Idea”
What is creativity, and how to generate ideas.
- What is creativity?
- What makes a good creative idea?
- Abstraction, ideas naked and absolute.
- How to generate a good idea.
- How to overcome that zone of despair when they don't come.
WORKSHOP: “The Art Of Listening” - Interactive Workshop
Drawing and mark-making are not only the very first forms of ‘recording’ for humanity, but are at the foundation of any art or creative practice, regardless of the medium or discipline. However, these practices and processes rely purely on the eye (observation), brain and hand connection. There are other ways of utilising drawing and the capacity to think at a deeper level, simply by including our ears and the process of listening.
The method I employ uses drawing and or mark-making in response to compositions and audio-delivered text. These methods have been scientifically proven to allow different parts of the brain to be ‘switched on’ and stimulated, taking the intuitive thinking process to new and deeper levels. It requires no skill at all. The focus is on mark-making, gesturing, recording, and not finished works.

Since our move into the bigger, brighter space on Acacia Street in Byron Bay’s buzzing Arts & Industrial Estate, Pack Gallery Studio has been humming. The walls have held more than just art, they’ve echoed with words, breath, and music.
We’ve transformed into a unique event space, and the response has been incredible. From M.E. Baird’s thought-provoking lectures (yep, all sold out) to Breathwork Sessions that quite literally took the room’s breath away, the studio has become a place for connection, curiosity, and creative pause.
And of course, the art keeps flowing with new artists and fresh works continuing to inspire and surprise. The walls shift, the energy evolves, and each month feels like a new chapter.
Here’s to a vibrant August ahead.
Follow us over at @packgallerystudio on Instagram, and stick with us right here in our new Studio News for a monthly dose of what’s unfolding inside the Pack.
We’re just getting warmed up.
